Job Club Program

Job Club provides an ongoing forum for individuals who are employed or seeking employment to meet as a group to discuss issues and concerns focused on success in the workplace.  Peer-led and staff-facilitated, Job Club address topics such as:

Workplace Attire
Creative Problem-Solving
Completing Tax Returns
Handling Holiday Stress (home & work)
Effective Communication Techniques
Appropriate Use of Humor in the Workplace

as well as job search, retention and advancement ideas.  An annual picnic in June celebrates the fun, learning and peer support this group provides.

Job Club meetings are fun, informative and a great way to meet with new friends!  Every second Tuesday of the month at LDA we feature a different topic designed to educate consumers how to have successful, satisfying and stable employment.

Job Club runs from September to June where the season ends with an outside group picnic.  Each job club provides the consumers with great food and refreshments, followed by a lively presentation of an interesting topic and concludes with an interactive discussion.

Consumers are encouraged by staff to participate in discussion, however their ideas are given on a voluntary basis. All are welcome to attend.

Some more of our exciting topics include:

Reaching your personal and professional goals
Understanding facial expressions
Dale Carnegie - How to win friends and influence people
Consumer Job Recognition

A few of the topics that were a big hit in the past:

Looking Good and Feeling Good - a dramatization of the importance of first impressions.
A skit featuring real actors from UB emphasizing the need for etiquette and good manners.
The annual Holiday celebration filled with holiday joy, music and song with great food.
Excerpts from current, popular movies about individuals with learning disabilities who overcome great odds - with a discussions that follow and personal perspectives from the consumers.
