SCHEDULE INFORMATION

The Learning and Computer Center

“Students may choose to focus on general subject areas, such as math, or on more specific skill areas, such as multiplication or addition”

Located at 628 Washington Street in downtown Buffalo, The Learning and Computer Center (TLC) targets adult students with learning disabilities, neurological impairment or other developmental disabilities.  TLC provides adult basic education (basic skills), GED preparation classes, and career development support.  TLC staff assists students in signing up for GED tests as well as completing the L15 form requesting GED test accommodations.  Students are linked to other support services as needed.

TLC provides individualized instruction based on the long-term academic goal, short-term objectives and vocational goal identified by each student.  The goals are outlined in the Individual Service Plan developed by the student with the assistance of the instructional staff.  Students may choose to focus on general subject areas, such as math, or on more specific skill areas, such as multiplication or addition.

The Center is conveniently located in downtown Buffalo and its location is incorporated into lesson planning.  TLC is within walking distance of BETC, Buffalo’s one-stop career center with a variety of resources for learning and earning.  The main branch of the public library is a free train ride from TLC.  Students regularly visit the library to read, to do research and to work on the library’s computers.

Small classes with individualized, multi-sensory instruction are supplemented with computerized instruction to maximize learning.  Currently, classes are offered in the morning and afternoon on Monday-Thursday, on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings and on Saturday mornings.  In the summer, schedules are adjusted and additional off-site activities focus on learning within the community.
