The agency's self advocacy group, Innovative Voice, or I-Voice (at left with plaque), was honored as the Self Advocacy Group of the Year at the 2016 Western Region Self Advocacy Conference in Niagara Falls June 2nd and 3rd.
In addition, I-Voice member Sheila Bush (above, right) was named The Self-Advocacy Association of New York State (SANYS) Self-Advocate of the Year, for her role in the LDA of WNY's self advocacy group. The award is given to an individual who has worked hard to speak up for themselves and others, and has done something that has improved the community for people with disabilities.
Sheila has been an active member of I-Voice for several years and has played in integral role in teaching her peers how to better advocate for themselves. She is an amazing advocate for herself at work, on medical appointments, and in other personal aspects of her life. In the community, she has diligently worked to improve public transit for individuals with disabilities, has been trained to be a certified interviewer for LDA, and is a member of the Peer-to-Peer Group at LDA.
