Learning Disabilities Association of Western New York (LDA of WNY) released new core values statements that will serve as a guide for the present and future of the organization. Our core values are not a new concept for our community, but a more concise and better defined version of who we already are. These values apply to how every LDA of WNY employee supports each other and the people we serve every day.
Over the course of the past 6 months, staff from all aspects of the agency participated and developed these statements as a genuine voice for the organization. This facilitated process included four interactive sessions designed to get at describing what LDA is and what LDA cares about. The group trimmed away aspirational views and found what is really true of the agency right now. The process included brainstorming ideas that described the staff and the people we serve and ultimately found a common voice that encompassed everyone. Participants worked to choose language that is simple, concise, and easy to remember.
Many staff and members of this core-values committee expressed that this experience really created a refreshed team spirit, pride, and motivation to continue to do good work.

Flexibility- Adapting to new ideas, creating opportunities, and supporting freedom of choice.
Shared Responsibility- Working together to meet expectations and foster growth.
